Mogollón, NM

The mining town of Mogollón, tucked back in the hills, is peaceful today. It's not a "ghost town," though: Some residents live here year-round.

Mogollón was founded in 1880's at the bottom of Silver Creek Canyon to support the nearby gold and silver mines. The most important mine was named "Little Fannie."

Businesses are open from Friday through Sunday between May and October. At other times, you can wander the town's main street in quiet.

To reach Mogollón, take NM highway 159 from Alma and drive east nine miles. The last five miles of road are one-lane and not suggested at night.
