More More-Powerful Globbing (Wildcards)
Attribute qualifiers: Wildcard patterns may end with a list of qualifiers in (parentheses):
/
= directory
.
= plain file
@
= symbolic link
X
= world-executable file
... and many more
So:
List all symbolic links in the
bin
subdirectory:
ls -l bin/*(@)
Remove execute permission from all world-executable files:
chmod o-x *(.X)
Exclusion specifiers:
pattern
~
except
means "all matching
pattern
but not
except
".
Example:
*~core
matches all files except
core
.
